M is for Mason

I can't believe little Mason will be 4 years old this month. It is nice to have something positive happening in January. Kiyas due date was Jan 9th and it is always a day filled with regret and hurt. My birthday is also filled with sadness as I am getting ever older and my Olay cream doesn't seem to be doing me any favors.

I have felt really bad over the last while thinking about how Mason is the "forgotten" middle child. I spend so much time doing therapy and doctors with Kiya. The rest of the time seems to be spent on Lex's school work and keeping up with his scientist mind. I also really enjoy cleaning the house, laundry and other mom type duties. I am told, however, that the child who receives the least attention from the parents turns out the best. I thought nagging and micromanaging produced well adjusted adults. Who knew? Masons favorite things right now are: Venus fly traps and witnessing the "dessicated husk" of a fly, sharks and what they consume, trains, tangling everything, giving dirty looks, loud noises and all manner of shouting and disagreeing. He keeps me in the moment and is his most charming self at around 11o'clock at night so he can stay up. Mason is a real mans man and I cannot wait to see where his fire and determination gets him in life.

I am increasing physical therapy with Kiya and trying to squeeze in some time for martial arts for Lex. Lex hasn't done any type of activities since Kiya was born and I feel bad. I have decided to make a book called "Mom Guilt" so I can catalogue my many shortcomings. It will be an easier way to keep track of them. My life is so different and I cant remember not being riddled with worry and responsibilities. I am going to push forward with my remaining brain power and earn every wrinkle.

Happy Holidays

Despite a constant stream of sickness we had a great Christmas with the family. Aunt Stephanie and family came in from Tennessee and the Babbel crew came from Arizona. It was Kiyas first time meeting her uncle Lee. We spent the night at Grandma Squishies and Santa came on Christmas morning and didn't leave behind any coal. The kids had a great time playing with the cousins and I am sure they will remember this Christmas forever. Matt and I will remember our first Christmas with Kiya home with us. It was great! I remember laying the phone by my bad last year waiting for any emergency call from the hospital. This year we celebrated Kiya's company and her amazing spirit. The day before Paige, Grace and Will went home we went to the park to burn off some energy (the children's). We played a competitive game of tag and I am pretty sure I won. I did notice that I was being tagged a lot. I seem to be the weak link when it comes to speed.
