As it turns out Kiya did not get her desires for food from her mother. On Tuesday we had another swallow study done at the Primary Children's outpatient clinic. Kiya is not progressing on her oral feeding so her doctors felt it would be a good idea. The study revealed that Kiya is aspirating a portion of her food. That is why she refuses the bottle and doesn't want to eat. Right now I am worried that she might also be aspirating a portion of her tube feedings as well. I will meet with a GI doctor soon to discuss her options. Hopefully we can just thicken her feeds and continue trying to get her to eat while on the NG feeding tube. I wish this obstacle was behind us. Yesterday her pump broke and I could not feed her. It is very scary to be reliant on technology to feed your child. Hopefully we will turn a positive page in her feeding book soon. She is gaining weight well (almost 10lbs now) and she is the love of our life! We cannot wait until she just gets to be a baby and doesn't have such acute medical issues.
